Blackboard Training Sign-Up

The Blackboard Learning Institute is composed of a series of sessions to train faculty in the most efficient and effective practices of Blackboard course design, management and instruction.

All Blackboard Training sessions are held in the Technology Training Center, located on the main floor of the Library. Please note that the Blackboard Learning Institute series is available only to currently employed Butte College faculty and staff.

Blackboard Introduction (not available until Summer 2009)

PLEASE NOTE:
Blackboard Introduction training has been suspended until Summer 2009.
Butte College will be upgrading to Blackboard 9.0 over the course of the Spring 2009 semester.

The appropriate form (Full-time or Associate) must be completed and submitted to the Office for Learning prior to attending Blackboard Tool trainings (Course Management, Assessment Tools, etc).

The following sessions offer training in specific Blackboard tools (or tool sets), such as Quizzes, Discussions, Assignments, and Course Management.

If your objective is to become a certified online instructor for Butte College (COIT), you must complete the appropriate professional advancement form (at right) and submit it to the Office for Learning staff.

These sessions may be taken in any order.

PREREQUISITE: Blackboard Tool Training sessions require the previous completion of Blackboard Introduction.




 

 

  Blackboard: Course Management Tools

PREREQUISITE: Blackboard Introduction

TIME: 3 hrs, hands-on

DESCRIPTION: This session will cover the various course management areas within Blackboard, including: student management, file management, grading, and other administrative tasks.

TIME: 3 hrs, hands-on

DESCRIPTION: This session will cover best practices when using the Blackboard Communication tools: Mail, Discussions, and Chat.

DESCRIPTION: This session will cover the Blackboard Assessment tool, including the Question Database, and the creation and mangement of quizzes, exams, and surveys.

DESCRIPTION: This training will cover the Blackboard Assignment tool, including how to develop and deliver assignments, managing submissions, and grading.

Project-Oriented Pedagogy

Project-Oriented Pedagogy is the capstone course for the Blackboard Learning Institute. It is a completely online course, held over a three-week period.

PREREQUISITE: Participation requires the successful completion of ALL Blackboard Tool sessions (see above).

 Project-Oriented Pedagogy (IDST-010)

PREREQUISITE: Blackboard Introduction, all four Tool Specialist sessions (Course Management, Communications, Assessments, and Assignments).

TIME: 22 hrs online (over a three-week period)

DESCRIPTION: This course includes one hour actively online within Blackboard and the second hour in reading or learning module development.

It is assumed that participants have familiarity with the use of Blackboard and will present Butte College specific policies and procedures in course development and will give instructors an opportunity to begin work on their actual proposed or revamped online course.

This component is a fully online "Project Oriented Pedagogy" workshop, facilitated by Dan Barnett.

This course is for those who teach fully online or hybrid courses. A hybrid course is defined a course that replaces some regular seat time with mandatory time on the Internet.
